Monday, November 24, 2003:

For all you Boris Vian obsesses out there, pick up the ‘Kenny Clarke Sextet Plays André Hodeir’ CD. The album is part of the wonderful Jazz in Paris series that is put out by Universal France.

Kenny Clarke was a great drummer and he was one of the main jazz figures who moved to Paris during the Sixties. He worked with Miles Davis and was of course a good friend of Vian’s. And speaking of the devil (angel?), Vian is listed as Directeur artistique (artistic producer) for this particular album. It’s a great recording with wonderful arrangements by André Hodeir, with songs by Hodeir (of course) as well as Thelonious Monk, Milt Jackson and Miles Davis.
